Today is United Nations Day, when we celebrate the much needed, but sometimes unrecognized, work that the UN undertakes every day in some of the most challenging circumstances on the planet.

The United Nations Foundation is a partner in the UN’s fight against hunger, disease, injustice, poverty, and conflict.

Over the past 10 years, the United Nations Foundation and the United Nations have worked together to:

Deliver 10 billion doses of polio vaccine to 2 billion children, virtually eliminating the crippling childhood disease;
Support 19 deployments of emergency telecommunications capabilities to disaster-stricken countries;
Raise $21 million from 85,000 people to distribute more than 1 million bed nets for malaria prevention in Africa;
Provide support to more than 50 World Heritage sites in over 30 countries;
Award $140 million dollars to help empower girls and women;
Create more than 50 clean energy enterprises in developing countries, serving more than 300,000 people; and
Mobilize 35,000 people and 40 organizations in support of UN peacekeeping funding.
